About Angie
Angie Sotiropoulos is a multidisciplinary artist based in Amiskwacîwâskahikan/Edmonton, Alberta, whose practice bridges the worlds of theatrical craftsmanship and fine art. Originally trained as a theatrical artisan specializing in scenic painting and props, she has evolved into an eclectic creator working across watercolour, sculpture, urban sketching, and book arts. She produces work under three interconnected titles: Society of Curious Creatures, Dragonfly Book Press, and Artwork By Angie Sotiropoulos, each reflecting a different facet of her creative interests.
Her visual art is characterized by a colourful and whimsical aesthetic. Her sculptures often feature imaginary tiny creatures and intrepid "explorers" documenting their surroundings, manifesting her deep love for the natural world and aiming to spark curiosity about real-world flora and fauna.
As an urban sketcher and co-organizer of the Edmonton Urban Sketchers, she captures everyday moments using bright, bold colours, unique perspectives, and dramatic shadows to create shared visual narratives to foster intimate connections to place and community.
In the realm of book arts, Sotiropoulos specializes in small editions of hand-bound sketchbooks, custom projects, and interactive movable books. Through hand-bound sketchbooks she invites others to record their own experiences through any creative medium of their choice. Whether through whimsical sculptures of "explorers" documenting local flora or custom paper projects, her work encourages a deeper curiosity and engagement with the natural and built environments.
Her work has been exhibited in Canada and the UK and is available through craft markets, gallery gift shops, and online. When not in the studio, she enjoys traveling with her partner and tending to her ever growing menagerie of plants
